WAN KHAO PHANSA [วันเข้าพรรษา: wan kâo pan-săa] is a period of three lunar months during the rainy season when monks are required to remain in one particular place or temple [วัด: wát]. You can only leave the temples in the very early morning to receive your food from the population.
Khao Phansa announces the beginning of the rainy season and the beginning of the Buddhist Lent. From this day you can see almost no monks on the streets of Thailand for three months. You miss them. During this time you study Buddha’s teachings in your Wats. Many young Thai men come to the temple during this time to live as a monk for a certain time. This is called Thailand BUAT NAAG.
We traditionally celebrate this in our village. In 2022 KHAO PHANSA was celebrated on July 14th. The residents dance from the village center to the Budist temple (Wat) where a ceremony with the monks takes place.
